Hello from the SCS Athletic Office,
We made it through the long winter season and can feel the sun starting to warm us as we fly full-force into Spring.
I would like to recognize some of our winter accomplishments.
I'll start with Wrestling. Saranac Varsity wrestling won the conference this season and followed that up by winning a district championship in our home gym. They ended their season with a one point loss in the regional Semi Final round. There were many individual accolades as well,
1st Team all conference: Landen Winsor, Whyatt Hicks
2nd Team all conference: Aiden Bussell, Gabe Webb, Ryan Bollone, Seth Purchase, Austin Thornton, Andrew Wittenbach, Eric Lake
All conference honorable mention: Aidin Thornton, Jacob Bollone
Special Congratulations to Gabe Webb qualifying for the State tournament this season.
Truly a historic year for Saranac Wrestling.
Girls Basketball saw tremendous improvement year over year including a statement, double-overtime victory against Zion Christian, who made it to the quarter finals this year. They are returning a majority of the team for next season, led by two CMAC all conference honorable mentions Maycee Reed and Lydia Rasmus. It's all forward from here!
Boys basketball also had a good season under first year head coach Kellan Smith. The boys were able to win a district game against Carson City and showed immense improvement throughout the season. The boys were led by second team all-conference player Cody Whipple and all conference honorable mention player Brody Stanton.
Moving into Spring...
It is hard to believe we got a game in already! The schedules are mostly full, but may see some changes, especially on the junior varsity level, as we go throughout the season due to teams dropping. We are one of only three schools in the conference to have JV softball and one of only six to have JV Baseball. A lot of credit for this goes to our youth programs building the passion in these sports to give us the numbers we need to field two teams consistently, as well as to the parents for taking their kids and building excitement to play.
For schedule clarity the majority of varsity Baseball and softball contests will start at 4:00 pm, while JV contests will start at 4:00pm before spring break but switch to 4:30 for two five-inning games after (league rules). I am doing the best I can to find and fill our allotment of games for our kids to play and I appreciate you all bearing with me as I work my way through my first year.
As with every email, I end with an impassioned plea for volunteers. You don't need to have a kid in the program, you could be a grandparent, aunt, uncle, or just someone looking to help the school district out. Collecting gate is how we offset the cost of officiating for home contests. A Varsity double header costs the school $700 in officiating fees for the kids to step on the field. Track and field is no exception, as we must hire starters and timers for our home meets which often cost over $1000 depending on size of event. 100% of gate fees go to help offset the cost of officiating. Below is a link for baseball softball gate sign up, track please work with coach Powell.
As always, if you have any questions or need anything I'm just an email away. JRicket@saranacschools.org
Thank you, and Go Redhawks!
