JSH students who have earned HEART tickets were able to cash in today for fancy coffee and hot chocolate before school. Drinks were three tickets each. Next month, they will be able to porder pizza for lunch!
There will be no school November 22, 23, and 24 for the Thanksgiving holiday. School will resume Monday, November 27.
On November 14th, Saranac Community Schools was recognized for their efforts to become a MI HEARTSafe School. In 2019 we suffered the loss of a student during an athletic practice. Since then the district has added 3 additional AED devices, trains staff on AED and CPR, and practices cardiac response drills. For two years we have worked to certify different grade levels at the JSH in CPR and AED usage. The collaboration with the Lasby family, Ionia-Sparrow Hospital, and Kevin McGraw and his non-profit organization S.E.R.C (School Emergency Response Coalition) has been incredible.
Saranac Community Schools is pleased to introduce Mrs. Sarah Simpson. Sarah will be working in transportation as a bus driver. Sarah has four children who all attend Saranac Community Schools. Please join us in welcoming Sarah Simpson to the Saranac Community Schools family.
Saranac Community Schools salutes all Veterans
Saranac Community Schools supports Treasures for Troops!
The importance of this drive is summed-up well by an email received a few years back from a Lieutenant who wrote the Blue Star Mothers after his men unexpectedly received boxes from the drive of that year. Please see this letter at the top of the "treasures" page.
Treasures for Troops appreciates any and all donations, downloading and circulating the "Needs List" from the WION website, monetary donations (see the Needs List for proper donation info) and any kind of help for our deployed military members. Cards and letters are welcomed and in Ionia Sids' Flowers has cards you can sign which we'll send (no glitter, please).

Wishing Nathan Day and Hunter Helminski the best of luck at Saturday's MHSAA Cross-Country state finals.

CETUSA is looking to place an exchange student who is already living here in the area. Aly, from Spain, is an active student who loves playing basketball and is eagerly hoping to participate on the high school team. She also plays the clarinet and enjoys being in the band. Aly is in need of a new host family in a new district. She is extremely helpful around the house, is self driven, and would do well both with or without host siblings.
If you could open your heart and home, please reach out to me at shd.cetusa@gmail.com.

Our dear friend Nancy Mutschler was presented with the Delta Kappa Gamma Friend of Education award.
The Friend of Education award goes to someone who has shown dedication to excellence in education.
Nancy started volunteering at Emerson Elementary School in Ionia in 1998 in Beth Diendorfer’s class. When Beth started doing Title I Nancy worked in Kathy Van Sykle’s room for a year and then she volunteered with Julie Klumpp until 2004. She also helped in the office and lunchroom during her time at Emerson.
Nancy then began volunteering at Saranac Elementary School. At Saranac, she helped in her sister Sally’s classroom. She helped students, made copies, and helped wherever needed.
After Sally retired, Nancy has continued helping at Saranac Elementary, especially in the office with copies and delivering mail. Nancy has been volunteering in Saranac for over 17 years. We are pleased to honor Nancy with the Friend of Education award.
